Cecil County Tragedy, Maryland Man Chablaoui Khalid, 42, Killed in Crash as Delaware Driver Investigation Continues.
CECIL COUNTY, Md. — A tragic crash late Sunday night has claimed the life of Chablaoui Khalid, 42, of Rising Sun, leaving a family grieving and investigators working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly collision at a busy intersection.
According to Maryland State Police, the crash occurred just after 9:30 p.m. on April 12 at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Mount Street. Preliminary findings indicate that Khalid was attempting to turn onto Route 1 when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a 2019 Acura driven by 23-year-old Gavin Dehaven of Newark, Delaware, who authorities say ran a red light.
The impact of the crash was severe, causing critical damage to Khalid’s vehicle. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Khalid was pronounced dead at the scene. The devastating loss has left his loved ones and community members in deep sorrow.
The Delaware driver involved in the crash was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. Authorities have not released details regarding his current condition.
