GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Ezekiel D. Gross, 19, of Grand Island, was killed in a tragic motorcycle crash Sunday morning south of the intersection of Shady Bend Road and Seedling Mile Road. The fatal incident is currently under investigation by the Grand Island Police Department, which responded to the scene after receiving reports of a serious traffic accident.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 11:37 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a single black Aprilia motorcycle that had been involved in a crash. Gross, who was the sole occupant and operator of the motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Shady Bend Road at a speed believed to be above the posted limit when the rider lost control. Evidence gathered at the scene and witness accounts suggest the motorcycle left the roadway on the east side before striking a street sign.
After hitting the sign, the motorcycle continued northbound through a ditch, and the impact caused Gross to be ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the injuries sustained in the crash were fatal.
Investigators are continuing to examine all factors that may have contributed to the collision. At this time, no additional information regarding possible contributing circumstances has been released.
The Grand Island Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from the Grand Island Fire Department and the Hall County Attorney’s Office. Shady Bend Road was closed for approximately 90 minutes while emergency personnel conducted their investigation and documented the scene.
