The community of Carencro, Louisiana, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Rene Vargas, a 32-year-old resident whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal hit-and-run crash on the evening of June 14, 2026. According to Louisiana State Police, the tragic incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. on the I-49 Service Road near Turf Lane in Carencro. Following an investigation, detectives identified 20-year-old Malachi Thibodeaux of Grand Coteau as the alleged driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.
