Family, friends, and community members are grieving the tragic and unexpected loss of Fredy Gavilanes Jami, a 42-year-old man from Ecuador who passed away after a drowning incident at Wilson Pond in Swanzey, New Hampshire, on Sunday afternoon. His sudden death has left loved ones heartbroken, as they remember a man whose kindness, friendship, and presence touched the lives of many.
According to authorities, Fredy was enjoying a day by the water with friends when the tragedy occurred. While swimming in Wilson Pond, he reportedly entered an area where the water depth changed suddenly due to a steep underwater drop-off. Those nearby did not immediately realize he was in distress, and it was only after some time that friends noticed he had disappeared beneath the surface.
As concern grew, emergency services were contacted, and bystanders made every effort to locate him. A Swanzey police officer who responded to the scene entered the water and successfully recovered Fredy. Emergency personnel immediately began lifesaving measures before transporting him to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.
