According to the Vicksburg Police Department, Turpin suffered multiple gunshot wounds during the shooting and later died at a local hospital. Wright was subsequently taken into custody and formally charged in connection with her death.
Authorities announced that Wright has been charged with first-degree murder following an investigation into the deadly shooting that occurred in the 2000 block of Hope Street. Officers responded shortly before 8:00 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire and found Turpin critically wounded at the scene.

According to investigators, Wright fled the area after the shooting. Authorities later learned that he had allegedly ingested an unknown substance before being located by law enforcement officers. He was taken into custody without incident.
Following the investigation, Wright was formally charged with:
• First-Degree Murder
• Two Counts of Aggravated Assault
