MELROSE PARK, Ill. — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting at an Amazon Fulfillment Center in suburban Cook County as 27-year-old Travion R. Taylor of Chicago. The tragic incident occurred Thursday morning and has prompted an active investigation by local law enforcement officials.
According to police, officers were dispatched shortly after 9:00 a.m. to reports of a shooting at the Amazon Fulfillment Center located in the 1800 block of North Fifth Avenue in Melrose Park. Upon arrival, officers discovered Taylor suffering from a gunshot wound inside an employee parking garage at the facility.
Officials said a security guard was assisting Taylor when first responders arrived at the scene. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Loyola University Medical Center, where doctors worked to save his life. Despite those efforts, Taylor later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The shooting triggered a large response from police and emergency personnel, with authorities securing the area as employees gathered outside the building. Investigators have stated that preliminary findings suggest the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute and was not a random act of violence.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public and believe the incident was targeted. The suspected shooter fled before officers arrived and remains at large as investigators continue their search.
