Keenan Cryts, a 23-year-old passenger, has been identified as the victim in a tragic single-vehicle crash in Berks County that authorities say may involve driving under the influence. The incident, which occurred early Sunday morning, has left a community grieving while investigators continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Reading, the crash took place at approximately 1:56 a.m. on May 24, 2026, along Bernville Road (SR 183), just north of North 4th Street in Bernville Borough. Troopers reported that a black Tesla sedan, driven by a 23-year-old man from Pottsville, was traveling southbound when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a tree.
Cryts suffered severe injuries in the crash and was transported to Reading Hospital for emergency care. Despite efforts to save him, authorities confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 11:19 p.m. later that day.
Investigators say the driver is suspected of operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, though no charges had been filed as of Sunday night. Officials also noted that while the driver was wearing a seat belt, Cryts was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders, along with the Berks County Coroner’s Office and District Attorney’s Office, continue to assist in the ongoing investigation.
