A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded on Friday afternoon as 19-year-old Cynthia Hodge, an Ellis County native and recent freshman at Louisiana State University, lost her life in a two-vehicle crash that has left both her hometown and university community in mourning. According to Louisiana State Police, the collision occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 190 near Jennings Road.
Initial investigations revealed that a 2005 Kenworth Commercial Motor Vehicle was traveling westbound and began slowing down as it approached a crossover. Behind it, a 2025 Kia K4 was also heading west but, for reasons still unknown, failed to reduce speed and violently rear-ended the larger vehicle. The impact proved fatal for Hodge, who was a passenger in the Kia.
Authorities confirmed that Cynthia Hodge was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, a factor that tragically contributed to the severity of her injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind grieving family members, friends, and classmates who remember her as a bright and determined young woman with a promising future.
