A tragic crash in Washington Township early Saturday morning claimed the life of 29-year-old Nicholas R. Grzybek of Apollo, Pennsylvania, and left another driver injured, according to local authorities. The devastating two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Route 66 and Mamont Drive in Westmoreland County and remains under active investigation as officials work to determine what led to the fatal incident.

Emergency responders from Murrysville Medic 1, along with several fire and rescue agencies, rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a serious crash. Upon arrival, crews encountered a heartbreaking scene marked by extensive vehicle damage. A Nissan pickup truck sustained severe front-end damage, while a white sedan had traveled down a hillside after the impact, highlighting the violent force of the collision.

Investigators with the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office identified the driver of the sedan as Nicholas R. Grzybek. Preliminary findings indicate that Grzybek was traveling northbound on Route 66 when his vehicle crossed the center line near Mamont Drive and entered the southbound lane for reasons that have not yet been determined. The sedan then collided head-on with the oncoming pickup truck.

Authorities confirmed that Grzybek suffered fatal blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the crash. The driver of the pickup truck survived but sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Officials have not released further details regarding that individual’s condition.
