AUGUSTA, Ga. — Authorities have identified 23-year-old Devon Briggs of Buena Vista, Georgia, and 22-year-old Evelyn Plakal of Elgin, South Carolina, as the victims of a fatal crash along Riverwatch Parkway that has left two communities in mourning. The wreck, believed to have occurred late Saturday night, was not discovered until Monday evening when the vehicle was found obscured by brush off the roadway.
According to the coroner’s report, the vehicle had been traveling westbound near mile marker 2 when it left the parkway at a high rate of speed. Investigators say the car went down an embankment, struck multiple trees, and overturned before coming to rest out of view. The severity of the crash indicates a violent impact.
Devon Briggs was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, while Evelyn Plakal was found inside the overturned car. Both were pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:56 p.m. Monday after authorities responded to the location.
The delayed discovery of the wreck has raised concerns, as the vehicle remained hidden for nearly two days before being located. Officials have not yet released further details regarding what may have led to the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Family members, friends, and loved ones are now left grieving the sudden loss of two young lives. As authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, the focus remains on understanding what happened and remembering Devon Briggs and Evelyn Plakal.
