A fatal motorcycle crash in Wales, Maine, has claimed the life of 51-year-old Steven A. Caouette of Litchfield, leaving the local community shaken by the sudden loss. The tragic incident occurred on the evening of April 15, 2026, along Route 197 (Litchfield Road), where emergency crews were dispatched following a 911 call reporting a serious crash.

According to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the scene alongside multiple emergency response teams, including the Wales and Sabattus Fire Departments, Sabattus Police Department, and United Ambulance Service. Upon arrival, first responders determined that the crash involved a single motorcycle that had struck a utility pole with significant force. The impact caused the pole to break and fall into the roadway, temporarily making the area impassable.

Preliminary findings indicate that Caouette was traveling toward Litchfield when he was unable to navigate a curve in the road. As a result, the motorcycle left the travel lane and collided with the utility pole. He was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A detective from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with crash reconstruction efforts, carefully examining the scene to better understand the sequence of events. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine all contributing factors.

As the community reflects on this tragic loss, Steven A. Caouette is remembered as a life taken too soon, with many awaiting further answers in the days ahead.
