Tragic Crash in Powell County: Teen Luke J. Pierce Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident.

A tragic loss in Powell County has claimed the life of 19-year-old Luke J. Pierce of Mount Sterling, leaving a community in mourning and raising renewed concerns about roadway safety. The fatal single-vehicle collision occurred Tuesday  evening, May 26, 2026, along Morris Creek Road near Stanton.

According to Kentucky State Police Post 8, troopers were called to the scene at approximately 7:30 p.m. after receiving a request for assistance from Powell County Dispatch. Preliminary findings indicate that Pierce was traveling northbound when he lost control of his vehicle for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle reportedly left the roadway, went over an embankment, and struck a tree with significant force.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Pierce was pronounced deceased at the scene by Powell County Coroner Megan Wells-Curtis. The sudden and devastating nature of the crash has left family members, friends, and the local community grappling with grief over the loss of a young life taken far too soon.

Authorities confirmed that multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Powell County Sheriff’s Office, Powell County Fire and EMS, and the coroner’s office. The crash remains under active investigation by Trooper Austin Miller as officials work to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the collision.

As the community reflects on this heartbreaking loss, Luke J. Pierce is remembered as a young man whose life held promise, now tragically cut short.
