Coroner Identifies Couple in Liberty Township Murder-Suicide.
The quiet community of Liberty Township is grappling with a somber discovery following a wellness check that ended in tragedy earlier this week. The Butler County Coroner’s Office has officially released the identities of the two individuals found deceased in their home on the 4400 block of Hidden Oaks Lane, confirming the incident as an apparent murder-suicide.
The victims have been identified as Claire Olmsted Buckley, 72, and Frederick Buckley, 70.
A Welfare Check Uncovers a Crime Scene
The investigation began on Wednesday afternoon around 2:51 p.m. when Butler County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the residence. A concerned family member had contacted authorities, reporting that he had not heard from his in-laws for several days. Concerned for their safety, he requested a welfare check to ensure they were unharmed.
Upon entering the home, deputies discovered a grim scene. Both Claire and Frederick were found deceased, each having sustained gunshot wounds. On Friday, the coroner’s report confirmed the nature of the deaths:
-
Claire Olmsted Buckley: Deceased from gunshot wounds.
-
Frederick Buckley: Deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A Community in Mourning
In a heartbreaking addition to the human loss, deputies also discovered the couple’s dog dead in the living room.
While the motive remains under investigation by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, the incident has left neighbors in the usually serene subdivision shocked. As the community seeks answers, the focus remains on supporting the grieving family members who are now navigating an unimaginable loss. Authorities have not indicated any ongoing threat to the public.
