A Snow Day That Became a Call for Justice and Change
One year ago today, what should have been a joyful morning turned into unimaginable heartbreak. Bradyn’s mom was preparing to wake her son with exciting news—school had been canceled due to a snow day, and a fun trip to Rib Mountain with a friend was planned. It was meant to be a day filled with laughter, fresh snow, and memories.
But Bradyn wasn’t in his bedroom.
After a frantic search, he was tragically found in the basement, where he had taken his own life. The pain of that discovery is something no parent should ever have to endure. Left behind was a note—short, haunting, and filled with sorrow: “Make sure he gets caught. I’m so sorry. Everything’s on my phone.”
What investigators uncovered next was devastating. Bradyn had been targeted in a case of online sextortion—a cruel and manipulative form of exploitation where predators coerce and threaten victims using private images. For many young people, the fear, shame, and pressure become overwhelming.
But Bradyn’s story did not end there.
In the months that followed, his family and supporters turned grief into action. After nine months of determined advocacy, Bradyn’s Law was passed. The law now formally recognizes sextortion as a criminal offense in Wisconsin, with strict penalties—especially in cases where it leads to suicide.
It also ensures that victims and their families can receive support through compensation programs.
