Tragic Discovery in Henry County, Missing Man Caleb D. Moore Found Dead in Abandoned Well.

A heartbreaking search for a missing man in Henry County has ended in tragedy after authorities confirmed that human remains found at the bottom of an abandoned well belong to Caleb D. Moore. The man had been reported missing by his family on December 29, 2025, after weeks without contact raised serious concern for his safety.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, an extensive investigation was launched that included interviews, ground searches, and the use of drones. Despite months of effort, it wasn’t until a coordinated search on March 13, 2026, that a major breakthrough occurred. Working alongside a family-organized search group, authorities deployed cadaver dogs trained to detect human remains.

During the search, the dogs alerted investigators to an abandoned well located on the property along Highway 69 South. Due to the depth and hazardous conditions of the well, officials initiated a complex recovery operation involving heavy equipment, including trackhoes and bulldozers, to safely reach the bottom.

After days of excavation, the remains were recovered on March 15 with assistance from the Madison County Fire Department Special Operations Unit and were transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office. On March 17, Rapid DNA testing confirmed the remains as Caleb D. Moore.

The discovery has left family members and the community grieving as questions remain about the circumstances surrounding his death. Authorities continue their investigation while expressing gratitude to volunteers and agencies who helped bring closure to a long and painful search.
