Ethan Lee Spaulding Taken Into Custody After Deadly Robeson County Incident.
PEMBROKE, N.C. — Authorities have made a significant arrest in connection with a tragic triple homicide that has shaken Robeson County. According to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Ethan Lee Spaulding of Maxton was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m. Sunday following a tense standoff at the Robinwood Apartments in Red Springs.
The arrest stems from a horrifying discovery earlier that same day. Deputies responded around 6:39 a.m. to Melinda Road, just north of Pembroke, where they found three individuals dead inside a camper. The victims were identified as Tristan Goins, 28, of Maxton; Howard Dean Jones, 51, of Lumberton; and Ashley N. Jacobs, 35, of Pembroke.
Sheriff Burnis Wilkins described the incident as a “senseless and tragic” act of violence, emphasizing that Spaulding’s arrest marks an important step toward justice. Investigators worked tirelessly at the scene, which was secured with crime scene tape and covered as evidence was carefully collected.
Authorities believe illegal drugs may have played a role in the incident, pointing to a broader pattern of drug-related violence affecting the area. The sheriff reaffirmed law enforcement’s commitment to protecting the community and holding those responsible accountable.
Officials also clarified that this case is not related to the March 9 death of James P. Lowery, which preliminary findings indicate was not a homicide. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
As the community mourns, thoughts remain with the victims’ families during this deeply painful time.
