Hit-and-Run Horror in Todd County, Teen Seriously Injured as Deputies Search for Fleeing Driver.
A quiet Friday night in Todd County turned into a frightening scene after a 16-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in a suspected hit-and-run crash along East Jefferson Davis Highway.
According to the Todd County Sheriff’s Office, the victim, identified as Gunnar Earwood, was walking with another juvenile just past Allensville Street when the incident occurred. Deputies say a vehicle traveling along the highway struck Earwood with significant force, throwing him approximately 20 feet off the roadway.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported Earwood by ambulance to a hospital in Clarksville, where he is being treated for his injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been publicly released, but officials indicated the situation was serious.
The driver involved in the crash did not stop to render aid and instead fled the area, prompting an active investigation. Deputies remained on scene collecting evidence late into the night and have since expanded their search into surrounding areas in hopes of locating the suspect vehicle.
Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle, which is believed to be a 2014 to 2024 GM truck. Investigators say the truck should have extended tow mirrors, with the right-side mirror missing. The vehicle is also expected to have visible damage to its headlight and turn signal, which could make it easier to identify.
As the search continues, officials urge anyone with information to come forward and contact the Todd County Sheriff’s Office at 270-265-9966. For the community, the focus remains on Gunnar’s recovery and ensuring the driver responsible is held accountable.
