COLUMBUS, Ohio — A tragic shooting in downtown Columbus has left a 22-year-old man dead and another person injured following what police believe was an attempted robbery on Saturday evening. Authorities have identified the victim as Damon Thompson.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police responded around 6:50 p.m. to the 300 block of South Grant Avenue, near East Mound and South Fifth Streets, after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found Thompson suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, marking yet another life lost to gun violence in the city.
