Anthony Tyrone Gresham has been arrested in connection with a shooting aboard a MARTA train at Atlanta’s Midtown Station that left an unidentified male victim injured on Friday evening. The victim, whose name has not been released by authorities, suffered injuries and was transported for medical treatment. Gresham was taken into custody Sunday morning following a large-scale manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
According to investigators, the incident unfolded shortly after 7 p.m. when MARTA police officers responded to reports of gunfire on a train stopped at the southbound platform of the Midtown Station. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located the victim with injuries to his left arm and leg. Emergency personnel quickly rendered aid before transporting him to a nearby hospital.
Authorities say both the victim and Gresham had entered the station after paying their fares and were initially traveling in separate railcars. Investigators allege that after the two men made eye contact across the station, Gresham approached the victim’s railcar and discharged a firearm from the platform. The incident prompted an immediate law enforcement response and temporarily disrupted transit operations.
Following the incident, Gresham reportedly left the station before additional officers could arrive. MARTA Police launched an intensive investigation, working alongside regional law enforcement agencies and utilizing surveillance footage to identify him as the suspect.
The search concluded Sunday morning when officers located Gresham in Douglasville. Authorities say he briefly fled into a wooded area, prompting a coordinated operation involving deputies, state troopers, aerial support, and K-9 units. He was eventually apprehended without further incident and taken into custody.
Gresham was booked into the Douglas County Jail on felony charges including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Investigators have not released the identity or current condition of the injured victim. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation as authorities continue working to determine what led to the confrontation.
