Authorities in Dillon are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a local man late Friday night. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Avery Ryan Blackmon, according to Donnie Grimsley of the Dillon County Coroner’s Office.

Officials say the deadly incident occurred on the evening of March 13, 2026. Emergency responders were called to the 300 block of West Calhoun Street after reports of gunfire in the area. When authorities arrived, they discovered Blackmon suffering from fatal injuries related to the shooting.

Despite the response from emergency personnel, Blackmon was pronounced dead. As part of the ongoing investigation, his body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death. Investigators say the examination may also help clarify details surrounding the shooting.

Monroe Herring, Chief of the Dillon Police Department, confirmed that detectives are actively working the case.
