Beloved Partner and Friend Remembered After Fatal Crash, Tributes Pour In for Sylvester Abayomi Following Kingsway Collision.
Heartfelt tributes are being shared for Sylvester Abayomi, a 50-year-old man who tragically lost his life following a devastating early-morning collision on Kingsway. The crash occurred at approximately 4:37 a.m. on Monday, March 9, at the junction of Kingsway and Green End Road junction.
Emergency services responded quickly after reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a Volvo S40 and Abayomi’s Volkswagen Golf. Paramedics rushed Abayomi to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Despite the determined efforts of medical staff, he later died from those injuries, leaving family and friends grieving a sudden and heartbreaking loss.
His partner, Denise, described him as a deeply compassionate man whose kindness touched everyone around him. “On Monday 9th March, the love of my life was taken away,” she said in an emotional tribute. “He was the most caring soul and gentle person you could ever meet. He had time for everybody and is loved by everyone. Syll will be sadly missed.”
Police have since arrested two men, aged 20 and 24, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The investigation is being led by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit of Greater Manchester Police. Detective Constable Thomas Johnson expressed condolences to Abayomi’s loved ones and confirmed that officers are continuing to support the family during this difficult time.
Authorities say the investigation remains active and are appealing to the public for assistance. Officers are particularly seeking eyewitness accounts, dashcam footage, CCTV recordings, or phone videos captured near the scene before the collision occurred.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police as investigators work to determine exactly what led to the tragic crash that claimed Abayomi’s life.
