The Summerville, South Carolina community is mourning the tragic loss of 17-year-old Ma’Davion N. Smalls, who was fatally shot Thursday night in an incident that has left many shaken and searching for answers. The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity Friday, marking a heartbreaking moment for family, friends, and the wider community.

According to authorities, Smalls was found in the backseat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound along Midland Parkway. Emergency responders arrived at the scene near Benton’s Lodge Road following a traffic stop conducted by Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies. Despite efforts to assess the situation, Smalls was pronounced dead at 7:37 p.m.

Investigators later determined that the shooting occurred earlier at John McKissick Stadium. Police reports indicate that a juvenile suspect, who was seated in the driver’s seat, admitted to possessing a 9mm handgun and firing the shot that struck Smalls in the backseat.
