New information is emerging in the case involving a Lafayette shooting and the abduction of a 7-year-old boy, as multiple sources indicate that suspect Adam McDaniel has been found dead. The father who was shot and whose son was taken has reportedly confirmed the development, with two independent sources also backing the claim. Authorities have yet to release an official statement, but police activity in Stockwell suggests the search for McDaniel has come to an end.
McDaniel had been accused of shooting the child’s father on April 6 at the Overlook Apartments before abducting the boy. According to police reports, the victim identified McDaniel as the shooter. The child was later found safe and told investigators that McDaniel shot his father before taking him to Marrissa Parker, McDaniel’s girlfriend.
Parker is currently being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail on seven charges, including kidnapping, and is being held without bond. Court documents indicate Parker allegedly attempted to establish custody over the child by falsifying school records and had previously offered to buy the boy from his father—an offer that was refused.
Investigators say text messages show McDaniel actively tracked the child’s location and relayed information to Parker. The case has raised serious concerns about prior warnings, as the victim had reportedly contacted police in March over these issues. Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation continues.
