Fatal Route 1 Crash in New Brunswick: Dennis Frick, 65, Killed After Sedan Crosses Median.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Authorities have identified 65-year-old Dennis Frick of Freehold as the victim of a devastating crash on Route 1 Wednesday morning, after a sedan crossed the median and collided with his pickup truck. The tragic incident occurred just after 7 a.m. near the Morris Goodkind Bridge, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yvonne Ciccione.

Investigators say Frick was driving a Ford pickup northbound when an Infiniti traveling south lost control, crossed over the median, and struck his vehicle. The impact was so severe that the sedan may have landed on top of the pickup, based on crash scene images and early reports. Frick was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Infiniti, identified as an 18-year-old from North Brunswick, was not injured in the collision. Authorities have not released the driver’s name, and no charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, shutting down both directions of Route 1 for nearly five hours between North Brunswick and Edison. The closure caused significant traffic delays stretching for miles as investigators worked to document the scene and determine the cause of the crash.

This marks the fourth fatal crash on Route 1 in Middlesex County this year, raising renewed concerns about safety along the busy corridor. Officials continue to urge drivers to exercise caution, while the community mourns the sudden and tragic loss of Dennis Frick.
