Her sudden passing has left loved ones devastated as they struggle to process an unimaginable tragedy that unfolded during powerful storms Monday afternoon.
According to authorities, Rachael was driving through the Eastbrook Commons area near Petal Walmart around 3 p.m. when rapidly rising floodwaters overwhelmed the roadway. Witnesses reportedly rushed toward the SUV in desperate attempts to help her escape as the current intensified. Tragically, the vehicle was swept into a culvert and became submerged before rescuers could reach her.
Dive teams later recovered Rachael’s body near Highway 42 after hours of searching. The SUV was eventually removed once floodwaters began to recede.
For those who knew Rachael, the tragedy feels especially painful because of the love and dedication she carried for her family every single day. Loved ones shared that shortly before the flooding began, she had dropped off her three young sons at her mother’s home to ensure they would remain safe.
