Police in Kansas City, Missouri have identified two individuals found dead inside an apartment in the Northwest Englewood area as 22-year-old Kaiyah Rainey and 23-year-old Joshua Gore, in a case that has left the community grieving and searching for answers.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers were dispatched to The Hills apartment complex just before 7 a.m. on May 22 to conduct a welfare check after concerned family members reported they had not heard from the pair. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered both victims suffering from trauma. They were pronounced dead at the scene, and detectives later confirmed both died from gunshot wounds.
Authorities are currently investigating the case as a homicide but have stated that no suspects are being sought at this time. Details surrounding what led to the deadly shooting, as well as the nature of the relationship between Rainey and Gore, have not yet been publicly disclosed.
The tragedy is made even more heartbreaking by the revelation that Rainey was pregnant at the time of her death. Her family has since created a fundraiser titled “A Beautiful Farewell for Kaiyah and Josiah” to help cover funeral and memorial expenses. Loved ones described her as a vibrant, loving individual whose energy and kindness touched everyone she met.
Gore’s death has also deeply impacted his family, with his mother expressing profound grief and disbelief over the loss of her son.
