KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Fifty-two-year-old Lakeisha Johnson was found fatally shot outside a Jefferson Avenue home Saturday evening, and her husband, 53-year-old Shervon Johnson of Knoxville, has since been arrested and charged in connection with her death, according to investigators.
Officers responded to the 2700 block of Jefferson Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on May 23 after reports of a shooting. When authorities arrived at the residence located at 2729 Jefferson Avenue, they discovered Lakeisha Johnson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency responders determined that she had died at the scene.
Investigators immediately launched a homicide investigation, reviewing evidence and gathering witness information from the area. According to officials, surveillance footage and additional investigative findings identified Shervon Johnson, the victim’s husband, as the primary suspect in the case.
Police said Johnson was no longer at the scene when officers arrived. Authorities later learned he was believed to be at a location on Ball Camp Road. Just before midnight, officers with the Community Engagement Response Team located and took him into custody without incident.
Shervon Johnson now faces charges including second-degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
The tragic incident has left family members, friends, and members of the Knoxville community mourning the sudden and violent loss of Lakeisha Johnson. Loved ones continue expressing shock and grief as investigators work to determine what led to the deadly shooting.
