Dauphin County Tragedy, Amanda Makor, 24, Found Dead Weeks After Returning Home, Suspect Remains at Large.
DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the community as Amanda Makor, 24, was found dead in her Susquehanna Township apartment just weeks after returning home from Minnesota, where she had been building her marketing career and planning a hopeful new chapter closer to family.
Makor had recently moved back to Dauphin County, eager to reconnect with loved ones and settle into life near home. Those close to her say she was especially looking forward to decorating her mother’s Harrisburg-area home ahead of an upcoming Easter gathering—a moment meant to celebrate family, joy, and togetherness.
Instead, that joy was replaced with unimaginable grief. Makor was discovered on the bathroom floor of the apartment she shared with her boyfriend, Rafael Malave, 32, on the 300 block of North Progress Avenue. According to police, she had been fatally assaulted on March 28, just days before her body was found.
Investigators allege that Malave sexually assaulted and suffocated Makor before fleeing the area. Court documents state he later drove her car to Harrisburg International Airport and boarded a flight to Puerto Rico, where he remains at large. Authorities have not yet released a motive and continue to investigate the nature of their relationship.
Reports indicate Malave had a prior violent criminal history in Puerto Rico, including allegations of domestic abuse and aggravated assault. Despite the circumstances, Makor’s family has chosen to focus on remembering her life, her purpose, and the light she brought into the world.
As the search for justice continues, the community mourns a young woman whose future was filled with promise, now tragically cut short.
