The community of West Des Moines and the residents of Sun Valley Lake are mourning the tragic loss of Ronald Brown, a 70-year-old man whose body was recovered from Sun Valley Lake in southern Iowa after an extensive search effort.
According to authorities, Brown was reported missing after he apparently wandered away sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 6. Family members began searching for him when they realized he could not be located, prompting a large-scale response from local emergency agencies. The search continued throughout the day before being temporarily suspended overnight and resumed the following morning.
At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, Brown’s body was recovered from Sun Valley Lake, located about 80 miles southwest of Des Moines. The Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the recovery and expressed gratitude to the numerous agencies and volunteers who assisted in the operation. Responders included the Midwest Regional Dive Team, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Sun Valley Lake Patrol, Mount Ayr Fire Department, Ringgold County Hospital, and community organizations that provided food and water for search personnel.
