The Charlotte community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Angelina Naomi Chicas, whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating crash in east Charlotte on Saturday night. Family members, friends, classmates, and neighbors are grieving the loss of a young woman whose future held so much promise and potential.
According to authorities, the fatal collision occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of North Sharon Amity Road. Emergency crews responded to reports of a serious crash involving a Honda Civic and a Chrysler 300. When first responders arrived, they found Angelina, the driver of the Honda Civic, unresponsive and suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries despite medical efforts to save her life.
Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department believe Angelina was attempting to make a left turn onto North Sharon Amity Road when her vehicle was struck by the Chrysler. The driver of the Chrysler was also transported to a hospital and was reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and have not yet determined whether impairment played a role for the other driver. Speed does not appear to have been a factor for Angelina.
As news of her passing spread, an outpouring of grief and condolences emerged throughout the community. Those who knew Angelina describe her as a bright, caring, and compassionate young woman who touched countless lives with her kindness and warm spirit. Her tragic death serves as a painful reminder of how quickly life can change and how precious every moment truly is.
While investigators continue seeking answers, the focus for many remains on honoring Angelina’s memory. Her family, friends, and loved ones will forever cherish the moments they shared with her and the joy she brought into their lives.
Angelina Naomi Chicas may be gone far too soon, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
