Florida Semi Driver Faces Charges, Yvio Michel Indicted in Fatal I-75 Crash That Killed Father and Son.
LIMA, Ohio — The Florida semi driver involved in a deadly crash on Interstate 75 on February 28 is now facing formal charges in Lima Municipal Court. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has charged Yvio Michel with negligent homicide, vehicular manslaughter, and failure to maintain an assured clear distance after a collision that claimed the lives of 52-year-old Hurshel Gipson and his 11-year-old son.
According to troopers, Michel failed to slow down for traffic that was backed up due to a separate incident, causing his semi to strike multiple vehicles. The impact was devastating. Amanda Gipson, 45, the driver of the family’s vehicle, was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Michel and two other individuals involved in the crash also sustained injuries.
The tragedy has left the Lima community reeling, as authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
