Death in Muscogee County Jail: Xaniya Muse, 20, Found Unresponsive as State Investigation Begins.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Authorities have launched an investigation following the death of 20-year-old Xaniya Muse, who was found unresponsive inside her cell at the Muscogee County Jail. The incident has raised serious questions as officials work to determine what led to her sudden and unexpected death.

According to Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman, detention staff discovered Muse unresponsive, prompting an immediate emergency response. Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the facility and attempted to render aid, but she was ultimately pronounced dead.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan later confirmed the identity of the inmate as Xaniya Muse. At this time, officials have not released a cause of death, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

In response to the situation, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to conduct an independent review. The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Investigators are also conducting a parallel investigation to ensure a thorough examination of the events leading up to Muse’s death.

Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, and additional details will be released as they become available. Standard procedures, including an autopsy, are expected to help determine the cause and manner of death.
