PUEBLO, Colo. — The Pueblo community is mourning the tragic loss of Leann R. Lucero, 31, who was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash early Wednesday morning. Authorities have identified Dahir Ortiz Espinoza as the driver involved in the collision, and he has since been arrested on multiple charges related to the incident. The heartbreaking crash has left family members, friends, and residents grieving the sudden loss of a life taken far too soon.
According to the Pueblo Police Department, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian-involved crash in the 600 block of West Northern Avenue at approximately 2:20 a.m. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found Lucero suffering from fatal injuries. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the vehicle involved fled immediately after the collision. A witness who observed the crash followed the vehicle and contacted 911, providing critical information that assisted law enforcement. Officers later located the vehicle abandoned on the 200 block of West Northern Avenue and found Dahir Ortiz Espinoza walking nearby.
Following the investigation, Espinoza was taken into custody and now faces charges including Vehicular Homicide, Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Fatal Crash, Failure to Report a Fatal Crash, Reckless Driving, and Driving Under the Influence.
