LAWRENCE, Kan. — Lynn Adams, a 70-year-old woman from Lawrence, was found dead in her home early this morning in a case that has shocked the community. Police say her grandson, 25-year-old Marcus Cassella, has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder following the tragic incident that unfolded around 2 a.m.
According to a news release, officers were dispatched to a residence southwest of Clinton Parkway and Crestline Drive after a disturbing call was made to dispatch. Authorities report that Cassella allegedly confessed over the phone to strangling his grandmother. When officers arrived, they found Adams unresponsive in her bed. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cassella was taken into custody and booked into the Douglas County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. Officials stress that all individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law, and the case remains under active investigation.
At the time of the incident, Cassella’s 24-year-old brother was also inside the home but was unharmed. He was located in a separate bedroom with the door closed and has since begun notifying extended family members of the heartbreaking loss.
The death of Lynn Adams has left neighbors and loved ones reeling, as they struggle to come to terms with the tragic circumstances. Authorities continue to investigate, seeking clarity and justice in a case that has deeply impacted the Lawrence community.
