The Hopewell community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Azarieus Jozsiah Wooden Hill, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting that has left family members, friends, classmates, and neighbors searching for answers.
According to Hopewell police, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Langston Park Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Azarieus suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to help him, the young victim tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Authorities quickly identified a suspect vehicle fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. Following a brief pursuit, two juvenile suspects were taken into custody. Police reported that one of the suspects had also sustained a gunshot wound during the incident and was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators have charged both juvenile suspects with several offenses, including Juvenile in Possession of a Firearm, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm Within the City of Hopewell, and Eluding Police. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
While the legal process moves forward, the focus for many remains on the young life that was lost. Azarieus Jozsiah Wooden Hill was more than a victim of a tragic act of violence.
