CAMDEN, Ark. — With great sadness, the Camden Fire Department announces the passing of retired volunteer William “Billy” Atkins Sr., who died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the age of 63. Known simply as Billy to his fellow firefighters, he devoted decades of his life to serving the community of Camden and Ouachita County.
Billy began his volunteer service in 1982, committing 37 years to the Camden Fire Department before retiring in 2019. Even after retirement, his dedication never wavered; he could often be seen at major incidents, offering water, snacks, and support to on-duty firefighters. His generosity, kindness, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered, and he became a beloved figure within the department and the broader community.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26, at 10:00 a.m. at Cullendale First Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Family, friends, and community members are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a man whose spirit and dedication will be remembered for generations.
