GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Authorities are investigating after 36-year-old Grand Junction resident Edgar Rivera was found dead earlier this month in the north desert area of Mesa County. According to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office, Rivera’s body was discovered on March 20 in a remote desert location north of 25 Road.

Few details surrounding the circumstances of his death have been released. Officials confirmed that an autopsy has been completed, but the coroner’s office is awaiting the results of “several special studies and additional investigative information” before determining and publicly releasing Rivera’s official cause and manner of death.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has declined to comment further, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Authorities indicated that more information will be shared as it becomes available and as investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to Rivera’s death.

The discovery has raised questions within the local community, as the north desert area is sparsely populated and not frequently traveled except by outdoor enthusiasts and off-road visitors. Law enforcement has not indicated whether foul play is suspected, and no additional persons of interest have been named.

Officials are asking anyone who may have been in the area around the time Rivera was found, or who may have information that could assist investigators, to contact the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office. As the investigation continues, family members and residents alike await answers in a case that remains shrouded in uncertainty.
